This article will be covering a few of the Old Changi Hospital ghost stories that often arise at paranormal gatherings. Are these tragic hauntings linked to the death and cruelty that took place within its walls?
Let’s take a closer look…
Plans For The Singapore Changi Hospital
The Old Changi Hospital was last purchased in 2006 by a developer that proposed to build a luxury resort – it had been put up for sale by the Singapore Land Authority.
For some reason this purchase and construction plan went drastically wrong, and the location ended up being returned.
The people behind the purchase claimed that it was due to the high costs of the project…but locals believe it was down to the paranormal residents who still reside in the building…
Old Changi Hospital History
The Old Changi Hospital was built in 1935 as the Royal Air Force Hospital. In 1942 the ownership changed hands…when the Japanese invaded Singapore.
Many believe that the paranormal activity started in the hospital when the Japanese occupied it. They quickly turned it into a prison camp and base for the Japanese Secret Police.
Many locals believe that resistance fighters were frequently taken to the hospital to be horrifically tortured for information. Apparently, hundreds of civilians and soldiers were killed there.
After the war the hospital reverted into a medical center once again, and in 1965 turned into the Singapore Armed Forces Hospital.
The hospital was closed in 1997 and has remained abandoned ever since.
Old Changi Hospital Haunted Happenings
More often than not, brave visitors report seeing numerous shadow people in the abandoned wards and corridors. Many people have also reported hearing tortured, disembodied screams from groups of unfortunate, invisible people.
The strangest paranormal ‘event’ that takes place at this location happens when groups of thrill seekers enter the hospital…
During their ‘search’ through the hospital, the group will suddenly realize that one of their members is missing. They then make their way through the abandoned rooms until they find the missing member, in a lonely part of the hospital.
They will be disorientated and tell an all too familiar tale…
They enter the building with the full group, but suddenly one of the group members convinces them to break off from the main team – maybe they could experience more paranormal activity with just two of them?
So, they break off, and start exploring with the other friend…who suddenly disappears.
This is the point where the terror kicks in, and they are usually discovered by the group in a right old state of fear. When questioned they realize that this friend never left the group with them…they just walked off by themselves at some point!
Nobody seems to know much about this strange paranormal force, or why it takes the image of a friend and then deserts it’s victim?
It’s worth noting that over the last half century, several people have been rumored to have entered the building alone, never to be seen again…
