This article will be covering the strange paranormal scene that turned up in the 80’s Hollywood blockbuster Three Men and a Baby…
Three Men and a Baby was the biggest blockbuster of the year back in 1987 when it first came out. It made over $100,000,000 in America alone, which was Disney’s highest ever grossing movie at the time.
A remake of a French hit it even won a People’s Choice award the following year.
Its popularity peaked again for much eerier reasons three years later however. Creepy rumours started to spread about a phantom-like figure that clearly appears in the background of one of the film’s scenes.
The legend of the Three Men and A Baby Ghost was born…
The Phantom Figure
People flocked in their thousands to rent the video for the opportunity to see this ghostly apparition caught on film for themselves.
And it didn’t disappoint.
After around 60 minutes of screen-time Ted Danson’s character, Jack, and his mother are passing through the living room carrying the famous baby.
The first hint of ghostly behavior can be seen in the window here. It has been claimed that the shape of a rifle can be made out, which is a dark precursor to what appears in that same window around 30 seconds later.
What appears next in that window is not the shadow of a curtain, but a solid and standing human figure.
A young boy, he appears to be looking longingly through the window, at the family life he could never have had.
Rumors quickly surfaced that he was the child of a family who had left the house in grief after the suicide of their son.
At first the story went that he had thrown himself out of a window, but this was soon updated to include the rifle, and nowadays people will tell you the boy shot himself.
No-one is quite sure why the boy would have killed himself, although further rumors whisper that his family sued to keep his story a secret.
These rumors seem unlikely to be true however. The movie wasn’t even filmed in a house, but a studio.
The fact that it wasn’t even a real house doesn’t affect the fact that the figure is real though, you can even see it here with your own eyes in the video below:
The Three Men and a Baby Ghost is clearly more than just rumor.
What is it?
But if it isn’t a ghost, what is it?
The answer is actually a lot simpler and less spooky than you might hope. It turns out it was simply a life sized cut out of Ted Danson that would have appeared in the film, but instead ended up on the cutting room floor during editing.
That’s the official story at least.
Other people are a lot less convinced by this explanation. Critics say they can clearly see the figure move, others that it is wearing completely different clothes to the tuxedo wearing cardboard Danson.
What the true story behind the Three Men and a Baby ghost is none of us may ever know, but most of us are happy to accept the official line.
Cardboard cut outs are much easier to understand than ghosts and the supernatural.
