The Tulip Staircase Ghost

The Tulip Staircase Ghost

This article will be covering the Tulip Staircase ghost image that was snapped on what is possibly the first unsupported spiral staircase in England, in June, 1966. Did retired clergyman Reverend Ralph Hardy manage to capture an image of a paranormal entity?

Let’s take a closer look…

The Photograph

The image that was snapped in June, 1966, seems to reveal the dramatic movements of an individual pulling themselves up a staircase, looking quite morose. Reverend Ralph Hardy insists that he was only taking a photograph of the elaborate staircase – nobody else was present at the time!

Ralph Hardy was a Canadian minister that was visiting the Queens House in Greenwich with his wife when he decided to take the photograph in question.

His wife was the one who actually suggested that they should visit the location, as she had seen a photograph of the wonderful staircase in a magazine publication back home.

Paranormal Activity

Hardy tried his best to get a position underneath the staircase – so he could point the camera upwards and capture the impressive spiral design. Unfortunately the staircase was cordoned off for security reasons, so he made do with his sideways vantage point.

He took the shot and thought no more of it…until he returned home and got his holiday pictures developed.

Shocked by what he saw, he sent the ghostly image on to experts who then took them to the Kodak laboratories. It was a true image – the photograph had not been tampered with in any way.

Paranormal Activity

When the photograph was finally released to the public, the Tulip Staircase became an instant hit for ghost hunters and psychics from all over the world. Numerous seances were held in the building and they even attempted a strange re-enactment of the photo, attempting to recreate the same conditions.

Unfortunately, these psychic and ghostly gatherings did not work – they could not manage to make contact with the spirit in the photograph.

But, there has been numerous other reports of paranormal activity at the Queens House…

Some visitors have claimed to have heard soft footsteps on the staircase…followed by the strange sound of a group of children chanting.

There has also been a handful of paranormal incidents involving a pale woman, dressed in old fashioned clothing. She has been spotted mopping up what appears to be blood, on the first step of the staircase.

This woman is thought to be linked to a maid that fell to her death from the staircase, many years ago.

  1. Do you know what the photograph was taken on? What type of camera?

I’d also like to learn more about the specifics of the other instances of paranormal activity. You had mentioned how it might be a maid who had fallen to her death, are you able to share with us more information on that incident?

    1. What we got…you got Trent!

This was all the info we were able to gather from RELIABLE sources. For some reason, there’s not that much on the subject online at the moment.

      Have a look…Google is your friend! 🙂

  2. Phew, it sounded scary. I actually believe in ghosts and paranormal activities because they sound too good to be false, the stories are always concrete and occur in every part of the world. This shows that they could actually exist but they exist in another plane that sometimes humans can just peek into occasionally. That is why re enactment of the photo taking couldn’t show the ghost again. I hope I get a peek someday too.

    1. As do I Aweda, as do I…

Thanks for visiting us and taking the time to leave your thoughts on the subject, comments really help our articles evolve! 🙂

  3. Hello, I have never been involved in any activity relating to paranormal research or community but in my opinion it’s a very interesting topic. This website to me is informative in regards to the Paranormal.

Have the author been directly involved or exposed to any paranormal activity? If so, can the author state any specifics? Can the author be contacted as a real paranormal investigator?

After viewing the website I realize that there is a lot of paranormal activity recordings available to the public. Before this my thoughts of paranormal activities was as far as what is seen on the tv and in movies, but now my thoughts are updated.

In my opinion the author and his website is doing a great job in updating the public to the reality of paranormal activities.

    1. Well thanks for saying so Jeff mate!

I have been involved in numerous paranormal investigations over the years, but I don’t work as a paranormal investigator (therefore I cannot be hired as one I’m afraid!).

      Thanks for reading! 🙂

    1. Hi Julie, sorry for the delay!

I’m unsure about the image above, as I got it from another website in a similar niche (I have no idea if they had permission etc). To be safe I wouldn’t recommend it.
